CeeDee Lamb Secures 4-Year, $136 Million Extension with the Dallas Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb had the longest holdout with the Dallas Cowboys, but now the All-Pro receiver is only second to Justin Jefferson in terms of the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Lamb and the Cowboys discussed on Monday signing a $136 million, four-year deal with $100 million in guarantees; three sources spoke to the Associated Press.

The people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity since the extension has not been made public.

Lamb’s Holdout Ends as Deal Is Reached

Lamb did not participate in any of the training camps in California, having also not reported the mandatory minicamp during this offseason. The June absence at the club’s headquarters began a day after Jefferson agreed with the Minnesota Vikings on a $ 140 million contract that made him the highest-paid non-QB.

The projected yearly worth of Lamb’s extension is $34 million, and that is almost double what the 25-year-old former Oklahoma standout will earn in the last year of his rookie contract this season.

Even coach Mike McCarthy admitted that there was a process for the suspension.

“The reaction was obviously great,” McCarthy said in a conference call that was set before the club agreed to sign Lamb. This was followed by Senior Trainer I, who stated, “Everybody in the office was fired up. ”

Lamb’s Journey to Stardom

Lamb was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft; the Cowboys expected him to be taken way earlier and were actually happy to land him at the 17th pick in a position that the team was not really desperate for at the time.

Jefferson was selected five picks later, then gained at least 1,400 yards receiving in his first three seasons. Lamb never got a lot of targets to begin with but last season he stepped up to the plate with 1,749 yards and led the league in catches with 135. The last of Lamb’s career bests was 12 touchdowns.

The deal was signed almost two weeks before Dallas began their season in Cleveland on September 8. It is more time than the Cowboys had five years ago, when their running back Ezekiel Elliott remained in his holdout during the preseason and returned only four days before the game began.

Preparing for the Season Ahead

A lot of time has been spent with Lamb before the Cowboys left for California and Prescott. Now the pair will have a handful of practices to polish their chemistry before the match against the Browns.

Prescott has stated before that he knew Lamb was exercising during the time he was out of the team, and McCarthy had no grounds to disprove that.

“The overall conditioning, I don’t think’s going to be a concern,” McCarthy said. We value the interaction and the details, the specifics; then he needs body-on-body, contested catches, having his contact balance tested and all those types of things; you really only get that when you play football.

To start, whereas Jefferson became an instant hit with amazing numbers from game one, Lamb, though not nearly as dazzling in his first season, has gotten progressively better in catches, yards and touchdowns with each of his seasons. It was his second year that he posted his first 1,000-yard season as well as first of the three consecutive Pro Bowls.
